Tilicho "Health For Everyone" is a long term project based
on medical and humanitarian aid to the people who live in the
highlands of Nepal, around Tilicho lake (District of Manang, zone of Gandaki),
and in the remote area, far off the normal tourist routes, of the District
of Dolpo
(the film "Himalaya"
was shot in Dolpo), Karnali zone, the poorest corners of one of
the poorest countries on earth. This humanitarian aid project is flanked by another project directed to medical-scientific researches.
Year by year, the medical and humanitarian aid project and the
researches are carried on and improved till their conclusion,
and then new ones begin.

The helping project in the beginning
is centered on children, in fact the infantle mortality between
0 to 5 years is incredibly high (118 on 1,000 births) ; fertile women
, their death-rate is the worst in Asia (740* death on 100,000 births);
porters , who, also in those zones, do not have any centre equipped
for orthopedic pathologies; handicapped.
*A record of Department of Health Services (Nepal), in 1996, put the mortality rate at 539 per 100,000. Later, in 2004, after adjustments by UNICEF, the rate was put at 740, implying that 5,000 to 6,000 women die each year during childbirth. It means one pregnant woman dies every 2 hours.
We want to know more and better the
Nepal and its people, and ourselves. |
